Online Christian Colleges and Universities:
Pursuing Your Education Through Traditions of Excellence

Christian institutions of higher education aren’t only for seminary.  It isn’t only those who study theology, biblical matters, or ministry, that choose to attend schools with a Christian tradition.

I speak from experience.  I attended a Catholic university; I’m not Catholic–and I went to study Fine Arts.

Why Choose a Christian College if You’re not Going to Study a Christian Subject?

Good question.  I’d go further and say you might want to consider choosing a Christian college even if you aren’t Christian.  I’m not talking about some sneaky conversion tactic, either.  Yes, there are schools with fundamentalist backgrounds that are geared towards having a Christian-only student body.  But the vast majority of traditional and online Christian colleges and universities do not fall into that category.

Most traditional and online Christian colleges and universities can trace their history of educational excellence back to the Church’s overall interest in education.  Before there was an established public school system, religious institutions–many Christian or Jewish–were the primary forces behind education.  The Church made education possible for many who otherwise would not have had the opportunity.

And some of the best schools in our country are traditional or online Christian colleges and universities.  Many have long traditions of excellence in both religious and secular education.

So if you’re looking at schools now, don’t overlook a school simply because their traditions are founded in religious principles.  Often those principles give the school a  foundation in ethical and educational excellence not unlike the more humanistic principles you’re more familiar with.

This has been true of Christian educational institutions for hundreds of years, and hasn’t changed even as education has been revolutionized by Internet technology and online learning.  Many online Christian colleges and universities are following in the tradition of their campus based predecessors to offer excellent education programs to students of all faiths.
